I recently discovered that a rawhide mallet is excellent for driving the cleaver through hard spots without making a splintered mess. Works good for splitting pumpkins and kindling also. I suppose the butcher would object to the kindling but it works better than a hatchet.

Great progress.

The door handle is a pretty cool design, but I'd put a wooden handle on it before it gets really cold.... that could be really cool when it's -30 outside!

That's amazing to me. Please give us some temperature readings too, if you would. I'd love to hear how we'll it performs under all that cold!

The WOFATI is looking magnificent! I don't believe I have ever seen any construction that looks more like my dream than this. Thank you for keeping us updated. Oh, how I would love to be a part of this project.

Gotta have some drafts so the wood burner has some... err draft. Perhaps next summer when the earth cover is dried out, an air tube that uses the warm earth to warm incoming air can replace drafts via leaks. Better to have a cool draft than warm stale air.

I always envisioned the end of the gabled section having a window or door or some way to let some light into that section. Was that me just making crazy assumptions or is that something that may happen down the road when it's not so damned cold outside ?

I showed these to my teenage daughter and she thinks this might be a little too much roughing it for her for anything longer than a week long outing. I like it, though . Excellent, excellent job, and thank you for sharing.

So cute.

This post doesn't really have a lot to do with this thread...but we went out looking for a Christmas tree yesterday...an even though we live in the middle of the woods....it still took almost 2 1/2 hours to find a perfect tree

That's really interesting: so Tim has put together a mold? If you can come up with a reusable mold, you will be in business!
