Wow, a article about diet that is written without hyperbol and contains good up to date information - I'm shocked!
By the way if this kind of stuff interests you I can recommend "Death by Food Pyramid" by Minger, Denise. I just finished reading the book and the part about how to read science papers helps a lot in sorting out bad diet articles easily.

That works with potatoes too - forgot the source but it is the same principle at work.

After moving to North Dakota and seeing all the elderly farm folk, I started enquiring as to their diet. Seems they eat a steady diet of fats, dairy, starches, meats, etc. All the stuff that supposedly causes you to die quicker. Most either never heard of or never bothered with the "food pyramid."

It's amazing how much science is actually opinion. How can you really study something that takes an entire human lifetime to form an adequate conclusion? It's like saying the dinosaurs lived in such and such a way. "Oh really? You were there?" "Well no, but I found this fragment of fossilized egg and developed a theory from there..."

Thanks to David for posting this topic.

Or is it that those folks who have the potential to be killed by a fatty diet have already been killed
I dont know its best to loook at things overall to get a better view statisicly
Just interviewing survivors can give misleading impressions I think

This is VERY old news. I switched to a high fat (75%) low carb (5%) diet in January and have lost 25lbs.

When people ask how you can lose weight on a high fat diet I tell them 2 agricultural anecdotes.

1. When pig farmers learned that the USDA declared that eating fat makes you fat, they tried feeding their pigs a high fat diet and of course the pigs lost weight. They quickly reverted to feeding the pigs high carb, fat free diets of corn and other grains.

2. At a holistic management talk by Ian Mitchell-Innes he stressed that you had to be careful during spring that the cows get enough carbs, if the forage is too high in protein they will lose weight. Yes, he said, Atkins was correct.

Eat Fat lose fat is a book put out by the Weston A Price Foundation, there are many very beneficial fats that should be in the diet and many that should be avoided. One for instance, Coconut oil is incredible for health. Soybean oil is terrible. They teach you what fats to eat and why, what fats to avoid and why. Once you fill your house with the best fats and use them liberally in your cooking you will be amazed at how you feel.

I regularly hog down on fatty meat and fish. Vegetables are smothered in butter or olive oil. I eat all I want whenever I want. Coffee and tea are 1/4 cream. My weight seldom varies.

I eat very little rice or pasta. Empty calories.
