I was listening today to "The Lost Notebooks" . Four notebooks of lyrics without music by Hank Williams ,Sr. were found . So , first Bob Dylan , then Norah Jones , Vince Gill , Jack White , Levon Helm and others each finished then recorded the songs . My favorite was by Holly Williams - Daughter to Bocephus and Hank Srs grandaughter . Sister to Hank3 . Pretty hard to top Dylan and Sheryl Crow but I think she did :

I of course would never actually admit to liking operatic Viking Metal - especially from a band who's gotten progressively poppier with each album - but it does work thematically, no?

Turisas

And to bring it all back around and wrap it up neat from such a wild departure from the lost hank williams....

The Blasters - American Music

'cause the whole world digs that sound from the USA

I bough the album this song is originally on back in 2001 during the last days of Heavens Gate Records from the guy that Jack Black must have based his character on for High Fidelity. It was uncanny

hey, Landon...you are expanding my world I am relying on this thread to sift through the masses of music out there.

our public television station played (the 20 year old) 30 year tribute to Dylan last night (instead of the usual old guys playing their teeny bop stuff from the 50's and 60's....it was mostly old guys playing music Ireally like)

My favorite is Eddy Vedder singing 'Masters of War'....always liked his version...goes straight to your gut.
ha! and I didn't mention 'you know who' once

Ah shucks. I just hope that expanding mind isn't leading to bleeding ears for anyone.

Now this is Punk!

...And another one rides the bus. (Live)

Here's another one from that 1985 Farm Aid from "X" who, for those not in the know, are one of the finest Amerian bands of the all time
history of rock.

I saw them on accident in 2004 at the most expensive show I've even been dragged to. Great story.

Another of my favorite songs:
X

The New World

I think I like every cover of Masters of War I know of, and at least one of my favorite bands has done one. And Judith, Ha!

Well Landon , Viking Metal is indeed a purty far toss from Holly Williams but maybe not from Brother Shelton { Hank Williams The 3rd } . Here is two from his broad spectrum of musical flavors :

My favorite of his traditionals : "Cecil Brown"

Then AssJack : What's great in his shows is those who pay to hear Cecil Brown and then end up hearing this if they stay long enough :

Hell yeah, both tunes great man - Never listened to any Hank III. Wayne, do you like Merle Travis? Merle is one of my favorites. I play a version of Dark as a Dungeon that always gets me props from the old-timers because none of them seem to ever have heard the 3rd verse for some reason. It's my favorite verse too! It's how he wrote it.

I remember being 6 or 7 and riding around in the back of a car cruising the hellscape from fred myer to trader joes past grey and black with blurry rain refracted lights all around and bumping an old old tape of his on headphones in the back seat. And people wonder...
