Hey everybody,

I have an old cake tin, 8 inch, with springform bottom (the bottom comes out so its easy to get the cake out of the tin). The thing is broken at the closing mechanism, beyond repair (i've tried). So I basically have the a small ring of metal with a flat circular bottom, also metal, that I can't think of a new use for.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Sounds like a small stepping-stone form waiting for concrete to me. Just spray some sort of release agent on the metal first; fill and wait for the concrete to harden; remove the springform ring; voila -- stepping stone!

I use the flat bottom of my springform pans as little baking trays if I've got something smaller to bake/roast, such as a whole butternut squash. It means I can fit a couple of trays in the oven at a time, instead of having to share things with different cooking times all one one tray.

@Deb - that's actually genius and makes me so glad that I asked because I knew people would come up with completely random things that I never, ever wouldh ave thought of! Unfortunately I won't be able to use your trick any time soon because we have loads of bricks to work with and no room for concrete, but certainly at some point!

@Galadriel - That's a really good idea, although this cake tin bottom in particular is like the size of my outstretched hand haha. Good to have on hand though!

Thank you!

We should throw him a surprise party. It will cheer him up. We can use this tiny ad:
