I have about 20 gallons of charcoal left from a little burn pile. I was wondering if I sifted or washed the ashes from the actual chunks of charcoal, would this be good addition to my compost, and not effect the gardens ph to much? Thanks, Woody
Yes, that will be a good addition to your compost, it is called biochar when the ashes are washed off, adding it to compost either at the end or even into an active pile only had benefits. If you put it into an active pile of compost, it will gather unto it many micro organisms that will then remain there and do wonderful things to your soil when the compost is used.
