Coursera has a course on Chicken Behavior and Welfare starting soon.
It's free unless you are looking for certification.

I have zero experience with chickens but they're in my future.

I'd love to hear from anyone with chicken experience whether this course looks good/bad, useful for permie chicken raising, etc.

Any opinions?

the video about it makes it sounds like it has plenty of good information. I think it is in no way needed to take it to provide chickens with wonderful welfare. I think you (or I or anyone)would probably learn useful things and possibly not agree with everything and just discard that. take what works for you and leave the rest. i am curios about what they show on behavior of chickens and what the behaviors are about and I am wondering what they say is times when free range is not the best. I can think of plenty of situations when a Paddock shift would be much better but not many other scenarios. a chicken run that is totally fenced in can be easier to build than runs that provide the same level of production with being covered on top and being covered in a way nothing can dig under them. I will probably start with a run and then move to paddocks as I have the means to fence them off in a way I feel satisfied would protect my birds well enough while providing them lots of foraging area. so yeah The video looks helpful and not necessarily needed.

I am curious enough and the price is right so I may take it.
