Hi. I've been reading lots about rocket stoves and such and I was wondering if a wood fired range such as an Aga or similar would be ok to surround with cob or brick to use as a mass heater. To collect some of the heat? The wall I want to put it on divides the kitchen from the bathroom. Would it be ok to recess the stove into the wall. The wall is 18 inches thick and built of cobb bricks.

Wow adam, an 18" interior cob wall ! Yes you can recess into that as long as it doesn't hurt the structural integrity of the wall. And yes you can surround any wood burner with brick or rock to add mass. Be aware that it will slow radiant heat until the surround get warmed up. We have one member who retrofitted a kitchen wood stove like yours and made it into a rocket stove !! Really nicely done. here is the post https://permies.com/t/35569/rocket-stoves/Range-retrofit
