Brenda Wilson (Brenda's Heirloom Hens) is teaching another chicken class at our farm, Friendly Haven Rise in Battle Ground, WA. This class is very useful for new folks as well as moderately experienced folks.

Besides basics, she covers a lot of downright practical things. You'll learn hands-on how to dust your chickens for mites so you get all five places the mites congregate in, and how to tell when your ladies aren't feeling well before things go terribly wrong. It's a real education that goes far beyond the simple things that most of you already know.

Topics include:
* The chicken family, who does what (and how they do it)
* Egg laying and healthy eggshells
* The right way to pickup hens and how to tame them
* Keeping them in good health, dealing with pests
* Moulting, bathing and keeping clean
* Fences and predators, keeping your hens safe
* Coops and nesting boxes
* What they like to eat (bugs and slugs - yum!)
* Hot, wet and cold weather
* Benefits of different breeds
* Heirloom pullets for sale, all organically hand-raised and ready to start laying

Brenda Wilson is a well known chicken expert. She rescues injured birds, is a 4H leader and has been tending chickens for 40 years and volunteers as a bird expert with the Audubon Society. She LOVES birds, is full of knowledge and is a lot of fun to learn from.
