I have three hives at my farm, but none at my house which is in a neighborhood. I put in a huge garden and there are a ton of bees in my cucumbers. Is there a way to capture some and start a hive? I heard Michael Jordan the bee whisperer say you could do this. Do I need to buy a queen, get a box and just catch some? Has anyone done this? Am I just being wishful?

Thanks

Btw, I don't know of anyone around with a hive in the neighborhood so I don't know where their home is

well... sort of. it's more complicated than just catching some bees. read up on swarming behavior and bait hives and you'll be headed in the right direction.

if the hives at your farm are very strong you could do a split, getting kind of late in the season though? I have 5 swarm boxes up hoping as well for some freebees. Good youtube videos on the topic.
