I have a tree down on the back side of my property and have no idea what it is. The bark almost looks like Oak. Can some one help with the ID please. Hope to grow mushrooms on it.

Looks like it might be Black Tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica). Your profile doesn't say where you are located, but that would be a helpful piece of info. It's leaves will turn a brilliant red in the fall and the wood has many uses, but i don't know about trying mushrooms in it.

Thanks I followed the link, it is Black Tupelo. Middle Ga. It will be fine for Shitake Cultivation. Thanks again.
