backburner on antique stove help needed

Hi we have just been given an antique cast iron wood burner which has valves on both sides , one side sealed other side they are open, After searching about realise this is a backburner. Can i ask is it ok to use this without connecting it up to water as want to use in a shed . thanks all tips appreciated
