I'm getting my first beehive later this month. I'm getting a top bar hive. I think i'll be fine if I just get a smoker and jacket/veil combo.

Would anyone suggest any other minimum equipment?

Where can I get used vented beekeeping jacket with veil and a used smoker?

Do you need a jacket ?
I just use an old heavy duty cotton shirt it's sort of off whitish . Are you worried about the bees being fashion police .
I bought a veil £10 and put it on a hat I already had.
I did buy gloves but you can get away with thick gardening gloves and some old sleaves to bridge the gap.
Sorted plus I know that I am not bringing any problems from other bees to infect my bees

Same here, I originally bought a jacket and it was stifling hot! Now I just use a veil with a boonie cap and a thin long sleeve shirt. I also started using thick gardening gloves and realized they are too bulky and I still got stung through them. Now I just wear nitrile gloves, haven't gotten stung in the hands since and it's much easier to maneuver without squashing bees...

Oh I forgot, other minimum equipment; A hive tool! You can use a small pry bar but a hive tool is probably the same cost and it's made for beekeeping. We have both and the hive tool is much better. It makes opening the hive and pulling frames out sooo much easier...
