Lego brick + acetone = toxic gick that hopefully keeps an item out of landfill for longer.
Please think about ventilation + toxic fumes if you choose to do this.

#7 plastic is a bit of a catchall group for 'other plastics'

Check out "precious plastic" google and you'll find research on repurposing plastic at home.

I posted a link to Precious plastic on another thread. I really like what he is doing. He's also the guy who invented phoneblocks, a modular phone that was upgradable and repairable. I'm not sure how far this went, there was a problem with the speed of the phone due to its modular nature.
 
He repaced his skull with glass. So you can see his brain. Kinda like this tiny ad:
