Hi Friends,

I live in Chaffee County, CO and saw this business on FB and thought it was really intriguing - hosting a honey bee hive on your property. You pay for the startup and bees, and then the company comes every month and manages the hive for you, even harvesting honey. At the end of a 12 month commitment, the equipment and bees are yours to keep.

what a cool idea!  I would love to get this started in my area.  It would be a great way to learn about beekeeping with an experienced person there to observe during the different stages and seasons.

There was a similar scheme I saw here in France . Effectively folks were paying to set up a couple of guys in business . You paid for the hive they harvested to honey .
If you are cool with that then fine

I asked about the honey - the guy has a very "Bee-centric" take on honey bees, it's all about the bees. He said he would harvest up to four pounds of honey for the customer, all other honey goes towards the bees to overwinter.

I think this program would be worth the cost for the bee mentorship alone. I asked the local extension office and they say they have only three people volunteering to be a bee mentor, and have had upwards of 100 requests.

This will take every ounce of my mental strength! All for a tiny ad:
