Can anyone help explain how to keep bears away from the beehives?

I live in northern Montana and bears frequent my property every october and november. We lost bees this year randomly in the summer (they just left and/or died), but had they lived, the bears would have gotten them as the bears found the empty hives this fall. We already have a double fence 5 feet tall around 2 sides and electric fence around the other 2 sides, but the bear just barreled its way through.

Any ideas helpful or we may have to nix the bees idea. Thanks.

Is your electric fence 6 joule?  It may be that they need something a bit stronger - a friend uses 6 joule for his pigs. Also, I like to put aluminum foil tabs with peanut butter on the wire. Most animals don't want to come back after they get a mouth full of that.

I am in the same situation Risa,
I have been wondering if I could build an elevated platform , lets say four legs then the platform overhangs the legs by six feet or so such that if the bear climbed up the leg it would also have to reach out horizontally to get out from under the platform and then pull itself up to get to the bees.
Some sort of ladder or movable staircase would be used for us to get up there.

three suggestions
Traditionally putting them up a height like a tree or the roof of your house was popular in europe and is still practised this way in Turkey .
Secondly loud barking dogs
Thirdly a secure bee house made of stone / brick

great new thoughts. never thought of a roof! they already climb our apple trees so even though a platform could work, it has to be something they can't climb. hhhmmm. will look into the joules and aluminum foil/peanut butter also.
thanks!

Similar to the foil idea.
I had an old prospector tell me to use an empty sardine or pineapple can. Wire it to the electric fence.
He said that one zap one their wet little nose and the bears never came back.
