Worked great! Clicked on the Rent link, it made me log in to Permies, then it launched PayPal, then I paid with a click and then it opened a Permies page with the video cued up and it played when I clicked!

Worked perfectly for me. Clicked on buy prompt that appeared over the video, redirected to paypal. Logged in and approved the purchase. Redirected back here and can now see the video.

"Rented" via Paypal, which took me to the Paypal site. One or two clicks and I was automatically brought back to the page with a watchable video. Excellent deployment. Thanks for all you do for permies Paul!!!

Rented and it worked as others have said - super slick!

Though the picture link (upper left corner of attached screenshot) in the permies PayPal page was broken. Maybe that's still in development and not part of this test.

Clicked on the buy button, took me to paypal, took my cent, then brought me back to the thread to watch the video. HOWEVER, I see no way to download it and save for later.  Is this just a test of the streaming feature, or is there a download option that I missed?

This test is for streaming only.

I don't think we are going to do download anymore.  That just ends up with lots of headaches.  And I think people are into streaming like netflix now.

Paul - I chose the buy option and once i remembered my paypal password, it worked fine.  I loged off and logged back into permies on another device and still could play the video, which I was curious about, no problem!  Only problem as stated above is that i see no way to save the video.

We are managing purchases entirely with the forum software.  This is devaka's quick creation.  So, yes, you should be able to log in from all sorts of computers and be able to view stuff.

Save the video - you mean like bookmark?  How do you "save a video" on netflix instant view?

I assumed that if you buy a video, you would be able to download to view offline.  When i bought your videos from scubbly, i was able to download them and watch without being connected to internet.  Will this work differently?  not a problem, just curious, I might have missed this point.

The buy link worked just fine for me.  Is there some sort of page where I can see a list of content I have purchased?

We priced that low, and set the file sizes up small so that people could get them to fit on a phone and stuff.  But it led to headaches.

This is being set up so people can watch it like netflix instant view.

So cool!!
This worked perfectly.  The moment I clicked "pay" on paypal, I was transferred back to permies.com to the video page (I used the 'rent' link).
I immediately got a receipt from PayPal in my email.
The only issue is that one would need to get back into paypal and log off, because paypal wasn't open on a separate tab, not did it automatically log off, or offer to log off.  Sometimes paypal will say:
You will now be transferred back to the seller's website, etc.  This was not the case here.

Everything worked fine, and took about a minute to return back to where the video was visible.
One thing I had never seen before on Paypal was the one-touch login  where Paypal told me a password wasn't necessary. Not the same thing as the browser remembering my login.
I wanted to try it again so I could take a video clip of the screen, but that didn't seem possible even by deleting recent history and permies cookies.
Oh, I bought it.

Quick question: is there any chancethere will be a non-paypal option for this? I'm interested in taking part in this sort of thing, but I won'deal with paypal.

Firefox on ubuntu

I shift clicked on the buy side.   I filled out most of the fields.

It wants me to sign up an account with them before I can give them money.   And they want my phone number too.   I'd rather share a toothbrush.

Was done in two clicks. Bought via paypal, paypal balance, wooosh good to go.

I'm so happy you're using paypal btw, I know a lot of others aren't, but as a European time and again I get frustrated that a lot of American-based sites only use credit cards and literally the only people I know who have credit cards are my parents. (I also have never used a chequebook, which apparently is a big thing in the US? anway).

Thanks guys, this is a really exciting development and I look forward to the magic!

And apparently a previously made account is locked... with no good way to contact them... it's like they hate taking money...

A second account seemed to work with the paypal,  then yay movies!

I like the non flash option.

p.s. I like recursion.

I rented, and from Spain.

I bought the cards first and had essentially the exact same experience.

A few add-ons: The second time around I'm liking the hyper-efficient "purchase and straight back to the thread where you started" workflow better. Still think it might freak some people out but it grows on you. Maybe another slug of text right below the purchase links on Permies could prepare you: "Once you purchase on PayPal, you will be redirected right back to here, where you'll be able to watch the video." Or something like that.

I had to disable script blockers to get the video to play and watched a few minutes. Nice camera. Nice video. Nice overalls.

Logged out, closed Firefox, deleted regular and Flash cookies and logged back in, and the movie was still available to play.

May I add I hate streaming, hate hiccups, and would prefer the download option for the future. If it causes headaches can I take them off you? I don't use Netflix. I know.

Ok, good to know.  Thank you for allowing downloads in the past - I got the RMS set as a last minute Xmas present for my sister, and her area of WV does not have internet fast enough for streaming.  I was glad to be able to download it just before I left for home, and shove it on a flash drive for her.

Worked like a charm for me, paid my hard earned jack through paypal and it returned to the page where the featured film awaited me.  I actually picked up a few things. I live in a condo where there is no chance I could put in a stove myself but it does make me yearn to get  out of the rat race and back into the country!

Used rent option with an iPad.  Worked fine.  I too like to download rather than stream.  Less of a hassle to go back & forth with my slower memory.

I'll give it a go

It failed, I was directed to login on permies before I could go to the paypal link. It did work when I logged in but I assume that wasn't the hope.

Just logged out and tried to "buy" it and it immediately went to the Permies log in page just as David experienced...

It made me log onto Amazon and create an account and add my debit card. Not a fan of having to add my debit card, but I guess we live in a digital age...

Came back to the site and the video works.
