As a new grower just starting, are there any existing forum members in the KC metro area with existing/producing food forests? I'm not sure how much I can do in my backyard (about 1/6 acre), other than I already have
solar panels that reduce our electric bill to usually $7-15/month, and a 10x12 shed which I plan to convert half of it into a
chicken coop. I'm not even sure where to start really, but can build more structures as long as each one is no more than 200 sqft and total coverage of my lot is less than 40% (thinking at least 1 maybe 2 greenhouses so we can grow all year.) Planning on installing
water catchment as much as I can too... as money permits.
The wife is really supportive and has offered to clean out almost the entire the basement to make it a giant grow room for microgreens (just got my first restaurant request today!) So, I
should have ~900 sqft to do something with downstairs too, but I am such a novice. Willing to learn though, and would love getting some input from someone who has better
experience designing/making suggestions.
Since first hearing about
permaculture maybe 3 months ago, I've gotten a bee in my britches about growing healthier food for first my wife and kids and next for commercial purposes but also to help others whether in my neighborhood or at church, sharing what I learn with them. Heck, I've already got a couple guys at church that want to have us over so they can hear more of these
permie ideas I've been reading about and apparently can explain with at least some success!
