Missing Topic

What happened to the topic about GMO's?

It was moved to a private place to be cleaned up before being moved back. 

First, I moved the thread to MD where I warned folks that the thread would be deleted if folks weren't extra careful about respecting my comfort zone on the topic. 

And then it got icky and I got complaints and so I removed the whole thread.

I don't get it? Comfort zone on the topic? Do you work for Monsanto? What

is the comfort zone on the topic?

As I explained in the thread - I want discussions in these forums to be about stuff where we are well beyond the GMO debate - on the side of GMOs are yucky. 

I've had the debate far too often.  And the debate just leads to a bunch of anger.  Or bait for people that wanna get into a fight.  I would rather talk about positive things that folks can do rather than getting all pissed off about the bad things that people are doing.

And now I just deleted another thread.  And it was for the same reason.

A topic comes up that i would rather not see discussed.  Too sensitive - people are gonna lose control.  And then emerson jumps in and does exactly the very thing that I don't like, so the whole thread has to go. 

The funny part is that in the more recent thread, emerson says "you're not getting this" which suggests that that person is less than perfect.  I've explained this problem to emerson over and over.  And emerson still doesn't get it. 

Comedy.

If there is just one more straw on that camel, no chiropractor will be able to mend it.

here about topics. Is there a list of forbidden topics somewhere so we can keep quite

about things people are over-sensitive about?

Nope, no list.  Some of us think that would be a good idea, but I digress....

"Be Nice" is the main rule that governs all.  Paul's interpretation of that is that nothing should be worded in such a way as to make other people, or their beliefs and choices look stupid or less than perfect.  For example, I can say "I feel caging rabbits is bad for them" but I cannot say "you shouldn't cage your rabbits, everyone knows that is cruel" .... etc.

Next up is the NO religion, No politics discussions - this is self explanatory.  If you have a soap box, venting thing you need to get off your chest then best to do it in another forum.

Then there is the assumption that all pesticides, GMO's, chemical solutions (well you get the idea) are not good for our planet, our food and our animals.  So we do not debate the positives of such things (this is where this thread went wrong).  And no Paul does not work for Monsanto.

And last of all - in general posts should be moving forward, instructing and helpful in a positive manor.  I mean we could go on and on about the trouble with the government, but that is not what permies is about.  Permies is not about debating the problems of the world, it is about discussing the solutions we can implement now  

There are other places on the Net for such discussions, so we don't feel bad about avoiding them here.

I guess I was just taken aback at the idea that the ill-effects of GMO's was still a

source of controversy in some circles, especially in a forum dedicated to permaculture.

Where I'm from this debate has long since been laid to rest.
