I've actually had this post in draft for a long while now ever since I saw an article about how China built a highway viaduct bridge over water along a steep coastal mountainside. For a long time last year I didn't know how to incorporate California's Coast highway into the post until a few months back when a landslide hit the area south of Big Sur California. I think a viaduct which would avoid this devil's slide section would be perfect and would allow the steep hillside to heal and cover over with native California Coastal Sage scrub. Plus, over here in Europe I'll have to admit they have a lot of kool infrastructure which allows wildlife corridors to flourish. I like the idea of working with the land, it's geogolgy and respecting the natural world that is a part of all that. I also love the idea that small scale farms and ranches can also make major improvements in their own roads and other corridor infrastructure and provide responsible and almost maintnenance free builds with lots of artisitc beauty and character.
