I am wondering if anyone has done something like this. I am building a
rocket stove in the middle of
greenhouse that will have the flue pipe running both directions along one of the long sides of the
greenhouse. I am planning on using 30gal drums filled with
water every 4 feet to support
wood pallets on top of the drums to serve as a work bench that will span the length of the greenhouse. i am hoping that the water filled drums will also gather and store heat. I am debating if i
should run the
rocket stove flue pipe ontop of the pallets and cover it with
cob. Or if i should run the rocket stove flue pipe under the pallets and between the 30gal drums in some type of boxed cavity so i can insulate the pipe and have the pipe bareley touching the drums filled with water to help in the heating of the water in them to heat the greenhouse. i am debating on how i would do the under pallet route. Can cob be fashioned to
chicken wire like stucco?, to help the cob form around the flue pipe under the pallets.? i would prefer to run flue pipe as close to the water drums to aide in heating, however i am unsure if the cob covered flue pipe will get to hot next to the plastic drums. i considered running the pipe ontop of the pallets but think that by doing so i will be losing heat that could be transfered to the water drums since heat rises, and water drums are below the flue pipe that sits ontop of the pallets that are atop the drums. Heat rises so i concidered the 2nd option to run flue pipe below the pallets and in between the water drums so that the heat will transfer to the drums and the cob/sand covered workbench surface. i guess my main concern would be the heat of the cob covered flue pipe if i could wrap the pipe with wire mesh and then cob it. the pipe would be suspended under the pallets. Also if the the pipe would ever get to hot and cause the water in the drums to expand and blow up. would the sun heat the barrels that are covered under pallets well
enough to suppliment the use of the rocket stove? Thanks for any input and ideas.
