I'm about to post a couple of project threads that are image intensive, and I have used Photobucket for my hosting in the past. I keep seeing the "buy an account!" bit across the net where people's pictures used to be. I can't afford to buy accounts. Does anyone know of someplace I can get images hosted for free? I'd really rather not use Imgur or anything quite so permies, (or photobucket anymore) as I have been stalked before, learned a LOT, and I know how easy I could figure out my exact location from what I'm posting. I have less problems with it appearing on Permies, that filters out some of the problem people randomly seeing it, but posting it all on really busy publicly searchable places doesn't feel safe.
Anyone have any ideas?
If you are posting the pictures to permies, you can add them to your post as an attachment.
I got fed up with third-party image hosts a while back. I use permies now, and if I want to post the photo elsewhere, I link back to the permies thread it came from as a way of encouraging traffic to this site.
I also got left out in the cold by Photobucket, and am using Flickr now. That word means 'faggot' over here, so it wasn't my choice to start with, but it's pretty okay. It's somewhat neglected by its owner, which is actually a good thing, because you don't get swamped by deals and advertisements on the site.
You're doing a good thing not paying a penny anywhere, definitely not Photobucket who are holding your pictures to ransom now. There are still some free sites out there, just google for them and switch. You can still copy your pics on Photobucket and move them to a new place.
I'm not sure about the stalking problem though, I never had that.
And testing again to see if there's a way to put the pictures in the correct place in the text...
Hm. No.
How uncouth would it be to put all my pictures in a post someplace on Permies and link to them in the correct place in the text? It's going to be hard to make sense of it if you have to flick back and forth on a long (just under 5000 word) post with 10 pictures all piled up at the end that are pretty much required to make sense of it.
I am using 500px to post some good photos I made. They have a free account with 7 photos/week, but don't show ads. And it definitely isn't usable to store them either, as you can't download the original.
For free file storage the big "cloud" provides come into question: Google, Dropbox, …
That would be fine. I already started the thread for you. Pearl's Photos. It's in a private forum that you have access to, so it's not going to be bothering the search engines, and the photos are hidden from the general public until you link to them in a public post. Think of it as a perk of being a pollinator.
