I have both bought their seeds off of seed racks, as well as ordered them online, and I really appreciate the quality of the seeds. Even though I am not in their region, I have found their seeds still do well for me. For example, three years ago I bought giant bags of tillage radishes, oats, and buckwheat. I have continued to draw from those big bags and those seeds have continued to sprout beautifully for me. In fact, the radishes are one of the most successful plants I've ever grown--they have merrily self-seeded and I never lack for radish microgreens or roots. They are a marvelous, edible, low-maintenance cover crop and seem very disease and pest resistant in my climate.

I love how their physical catalog is laid out, and all the information provided on each plant. I also loved their old website. Their new webiste is a bit of a pain to navigate on a desktop computer with slow internet. Pages often take a long time, and look for a type of seed, one has to click a lot of buttons. For example, to find squash varieties one must: Click the drop down menu, click "shop," click "vegetables-view all," then "squash-winter." I would much prefer to click a menu and see all the categories of vegetable right away, rather than have to click so many sub-menus. And then, when one finally gets to the squash page, there's lovely pictures of squash and their names and prices...but no information on the variety. To find out a description, Latin name and days-to-maturity, one has to click every single variety--which means opening a lot of tabs or clicking the "back" button a lot. Either way, it results in a long time waiting for pages to load. There does appear to be some upgrades to their website: the pages seem to load faster and instead of just 10 varieties per page, you can choose to see all. I am grateful for these changes, but I must admit that I've ordered a lot less from them recently simply because it takes so long to load pages and I hate having to open every single one of their 21 varieties of summer squash to find out which might work in my area.

Speaking of varieties, the have a very large selection, which is something I love! They have so many of the seeds that I want, that I could probably order 90% of what I want to plant from them! And, their shipping is free over $10! Their pricing is also pretty reasonable, especially for cover crops. And, I love that everything is organic, and the seeds seem very high quality.

All in all, I highly recommend High Mowing Seeds--I just wish they could go back to their old website!

I live in Maine and Vermont is two states away. They have similar issues with cold springs and short seasons, so their seeds do well for me. Their seeds are expensive but good. Good varieties, good germination, good selection. They also have a nice selection of open-pollinated seeds so if you seed save, the little bit more you spent on these seeds amortizes immediately. High Mowing is one of my favorite seed suppliers. The only reason I don't give it ten out of ten acorns is that the seeds are often more expensive than its competitors. That said, they do a lot of internal development, which is the reason why their varieties and their germinations are so good. It's a tradeoff.

I give this seed source 9 out of 10 acorns.  I've been extremely happy with germination rates and their catalog is excellent.  Pole bean selection could be bigger but otherwise selection is good, especially on hard to find items like celeriac. Their King of the North bell peppers performed better than any green to red bells I've ever grown!  And free shipping on small orders is excellent. My order arrives today, can't wait to get the Dakota Tears onions started!
