keeping chickens with pigs  RSS feed

Hi, we are going to raise some meat birds this summer (plan to do 2 batches of about 25 birds), as well as 3 pigs. We're fencing a 1/2 acre paddock for the pigs and wondered if this would serve for the birds as well. We would build a floorless coop that we could move around to prevent poop buildup (probably line the bottom with some straw each time?). The paddock is about half forest and half open brush (mostly salmonberry bushes).

Has anybody raised pigs and chickens together? Would the pigs provide any protection from predators? Would the pigs try to eat the chicken feed and vice versa?

Given the opportunity, the pigs would eat the chicks.

Ah, good point. I keep forgetting that meat birds are processed early enough that most of the time they're with you they are young'uns. Guess we're sticking with a chicken tractor then!
