It was our family's turn to host the church
coffee hour last Sunday and I brought wild breakfast treats -- acorn mini donuts (powdered and cinnamon sugar) and elderberry grape juice. I've brought elderberry lemonade before and that's always a hit, and the elderberry grape juice was this time, too. One lady told me if I ever decide to
sell the stuff, she wants to buy me out. :)
Here's the recipe for the elderberry grape juice:
Mix in a gallon ice tea jar: 1 quart of grape juice (from back
yard purple grapes but you could use store bought), 2 quarts elderberry juice, about 1/2 cup organic lemon juice and sugar to taste.
I have the acorn mini donut recipe on my author blog
here and it's also in my acorn foraging book. They were all gobbled up, so I guess they were a hit. :) The elderberry grape juice recipe isn't in my elderberry foraging book, but there are 70+ other recipes. I just keep coming up with more ways that I love to use them.
The elderberries and acorns were foraged and the grapes were from my in-laws' back yard. It was fun to
feed a crowd with our wild bounty and show them how good it can taste!
