We are doing a decent of job of pest control which a fair combination of planting enough to feed the pests, organic control and mixed planting (no monoculture) but the one pest that is a disaster is the leafcutter ant.

Most of the property is a pine and oak forest with other trees mixed in plus native ground cover. In front of the house, my wife has planted some flowers. The leafcutters love some of the native plants, some garden plants and an assortment of the flowers. They travel hundreds of meters to find their favorites.

Nothing organic has been effective and lots of non-organic things don't work either. They seem to be very selective in what they bring home. The closest we have come is that they are not thrilled by having to cross waste water from washing laundry. But, that is a very temporary solution.

Digging out a nest works but it is a lot of work and there are lots of them on our property plus on the adjoining properties.

Call me "desperate in Nicaragua". I am open to pretty much any idea that doesn't require large quantities of explosives.
