Join Tim Barker and the Appropriate Technologyclass as they explore how to build a better crock pot. The easy bake coffin is an appropriate technology that sort of combines a crock pot and a haybox cooker. This one uses power, but can cook three times the food using less than half the power. And this technology can be scaled down for home use.
The easy bake coffin is a hay box cooker with a tiny, thermostatically controlled heater. With so much insulation, food can cook for days using hardly any power. You can cook 70 gallons of food with less energy than a standard crock pot.
In this 50 minute long video you'll learn how it works, why it works, and the elements you'll need to create one of your own.

Nice idea! I just emailed davin to see if he might be interested in coming up with such a list complete with a set of plans for folks. He has done this in the past and sold plans for $20.
An idea for improvement would be to have the silicone heating mats portable inside the unit so that you could use a divider to make the heating space smaller, thus you could heat up a smaller area. Having someone stand in front of the camera was annoying when he was speaking, but great information to be had from this. Combining this with the rocket stove with say, hot oil that would reach 300 degrees would send this project to the moon Great ideas here.
CAUTION! Do not touch the blades on your neck propeller while they are active. Tiny ad:
