Anyone have an opinion on using shredded cedar bark instead of straw in a light clay slip? The area I'm in has a cedar mill and sells the bark cheap. For those that don't know cedar bark is very hairy and stringy when it comes off the log.cedar bark

You could do some tests.  I don't see why it wouldn't work.  Cedar is very durable and rot resistant.  I think it would make a great clay/straw type wall, that is rammed into forms.  Are you thinking of covering straw bales with a slip of this mix?  It might be a little rough for that unless you run it all through a chipper/shredder to make it a lot finer... but I don't know... it might work for that too.

I was thinking pressed into forms on the outside of an earth bag wall.
