Wyomiles Hogan wrote:Hey Lonnie, In several other posts you have mentioned that there is a growing community around you that is permie friendly. Could you write a little more about that. Is there land for sale in your area? How much government regs are there? How free are you?

Hello Wyomiles Hogan!

I Live near Boise Idaho north of Caldwell Idaho in Canyon County. We deal with our share of legal beagle BS, but not as bad as say California where I spent the last couple of years. Or Oregon or Washington where they seem to be hell bent on recreating the USSR. There is land for sale here and the market is fairly active, this is a destination of choice for those fleeing the tyranny of So. Cal and it's myriad stress related maladies. The land here is high desert so I am Hardiness zone 6B. I belong to a couple of different orgs here that are aimed at Homesteading and Aquaponics http://www.meetup.com/Idaho-Homesteading-Aquaponics/ and the other is aimed at Sustainability and creating a food hub The Treasure Valley Sustainability Project https://www.facebook.com/groups/566852209996349/ We have a website, but it is in it's infancy and not much more than a page identifying it as such is there so a link is a moot thang.

Checkout those links join the IHA meetup group and you can interact with others who may have more knowledge about things such as property values and purchasing land/dealing with the Nazi's that BE and such.

Oh by the way we have our first couple recruited and slated to move onto the property around mid February or so, we are excited! We are still looking for others who may want to add theirsel;ves tot he tribe however, especially if you have permaculture training or some other specialization like herbal production and concocting miracle remedies for goats and chickens et al.

Find us at http://www.facebook.com/WonLoveFarm like us subscribe to us to be entertained by the mayhem that shall ensue once the land is once again green and bringing forth greenness!

Hola! I am Lonnie, I live in Southwest Idaho... Nampa/Caldwell area on 3.5 acres. My GF and I are building a working Permaculture Homestead/Farm/CSA we are focusing on Broiler Chickens (Salatin pastured poultry style) Laying Hens, a few head of cattle and goats for meat and milk and Huglekultur gardening for Veggies etc.

We are looking for 1 or 2 folks who would like to live and work on the place in exchange for room and board and a share of the Do-Re-Mi $$$ as it comes along. We are near several very good colleges BSU, CWI, NNU, TVCC, College of Idaho, also we intend to create a PDC school and demonstration center here. So educational possibilities abound!

Also near some amazing skiing and trekking opportunities, lots of whitewater in the summer a very nice river nearby etc.

We are 50ish and very laid back, lived in Nor Cal for a couple of years and grew Jah Herb...can't do that here in Idaho, they "Frown" on it... BUT we are friendly to the Mother herb, nuff said. We are spiritual folks, (Not Religious) and would like you to be as well, it usually makes for a more peaceful environment when we hold something higher than ourselves.

We are on Facebook under "Won Love Farms" you can email me at wonlovefarms@gmail.com hit me up, let's habla!

John you may want to look into SPIN farming, Small Plot INtensive... there are books and resources to teach the methods and it is possible with some luck and maybe a little help to make $20,000.00 a year which would probably just about replace your income and leave you with about 4 or 5 months of "down time" to work at something else to replace what the SPIN farming doesn't. I looked into it and it is just too intense for me, it requires that you really go at it hard, and I am just not into the high stress lifestyle anymore... Blessings on your path

My GF and I live on 3.5 acres in SW Idaho and are building a farming community as well. We have room for one or maybe two (especially a couple) folks who want to work for room and board and a cut of the veggies/poultry sales. We have HUMOUNGOUS plans for the place, but little help and little finances, bot strapping our way to self sufficiency. The Facebook page is>>>https://www.facebook.com/WonLoveFarm?ref=ts&fref=ts my email is wonlovefarm@gmail.com . Hit me up and let's see if we fit your image of the future.
