Thought these worms might be pests, Coddling Moth? or Green Apple Worm? When I pinch them between my fingers (which is difficult) they "snap". When uncovered they stop moving. They are not smooth but rather segmented with small firm "hairs" in each segment.
My hot compost pile is composed of kitchen waste, coffee grounds, redwood saw dust, and yard clippings. I've used a compost pile in the past and am currently using a wire bin now and they(worms) have been in both. I turn the pile every few days. Have not found them anywhere else in the yard. I'm concerned that this is a pest. Any help would be appreciated.
