It seems that this solar panel kit is not so suitable to Uri Go as I understand. It's "ideal for running small pumps and lights or charging your portable electronic devices" as it said in spec. This system provides only 1.2 kWt/hrs per day that is 36 kWt/hrs per month. This is very small amount of energy for somebody that wants to be off the grid:). Each panel here is 100Watt and it is not enough. Maybe in the case of buying a large number of panels and building a big array on a large area. You can read the following post that may help you on the best solar panels for home.
Thanks.

Hello, Collin!
Thank you for great sharing! It's great idea to use solar energy for cooking in the form of solar grill. My question if this Lithium Nitrate which serves as a solar battery will not harm the cooked food? The idea of hybrid grill is better I think because, when we want to eat and cook but there is no sun- it's a problem...Nevertheless it's a great product.

Dave, thanks for the great information! I'll check these Unisolar solar shingles. I want to learn more about this technology. I like as these solar shingles look like on the roof. As I understand it better to invite the installation crew to do all the installation works and not to do it by myself because of complexity.

Hello,

Has somebody here tried the solar shingles? It's very interesting concept. It looks great on the roof but seems more expensive than regular solar panels. Can I implement them as off grid? I know the one big company that produces these solar shingles- DOW Powerhouse. Has anybody had an experience with them? Maybe this will be the next step in developing of solar technologies?
Thanks.

Danielle Black wrote:Thanks guys! Since I have done this post I have realized that solid information for how to put together these systems is few and far between. I think I may invest in a book like, like alternative energy for dummies or something like that. Does anyone know of a good book for this kind of thing? Thanks again!

Hello, Danielle

There are many good books and guides for building your own solar systems. Personally I prefer to find and check some information for free on the internet first and try to learn from blogs and forums for free. I may reccomend you to read this post on what are the best solar energy websites. And if you want to know what are the components of every solar system, you may also read it there. I hope this helps.

Kenny, make shure you tabbing wire is thick enough, say 18-20 mm. Good tabbing wire is made of solid copper coated with solder. Some other tabbing wires are made of tin which doesn't adhere well. Do you know from what material your wire is made of?

Wow, it's really not much money! At the end you've payed 6000$ for this system. This scheme is real passive income if you're putting back for about double what you're consume.
I'll sure check your recommended videos. Thank you very much! I'm interested mostly in off grid solution. It seems on grid systems may be installed only by professional electricians. Am I right?

Very nice system, Phil! How much was it cost to you to buy and install this system? It seems eight weeks for the power company is too much time. You may add to your existing system functionality of off the grid (add batteries, etc.) for the cases when grid will be down, such form of hybrid system.

Good luck with your project! It's better to do something then nothing. I think you need a good DIY solar panels guide, maybe to search on internet. What solar cells are you use?
As I know you need to solder them as JT Reed said, positive to negative. To build solar panel you also need to have a box to place and stick these array of solar cells.
