I have been too busy working at the farm and also my full-time job to spend much time on line lately but I just wanted anyone who is interested to know that this project is still very much on the go. Members have been living on and visiting the farm this year and we have gotten much accomplished. If anyone is interested, you can e-mail me at N.L.eco.community@gmail.com for more information.

I heard about the Anastasia movement while in Eastern Europe and had a long talk with their leader in Estonia when I was there last. The impression that I got was very good. They do not seem cultish at all and the movement seems to be very positive. I bought the first two books but I have been very busy lately and have not had the time to read them yet.

You can still but land for cheap in Northern Ontario but the prices are going up fast. The areas around New Liskeard and Cochrane have some very good farmland.
I personally could not live without my tractors at this time but I have over 300 acres. Yes, they are smelly, noisy and dangerous and I would love to eventually replace them with horses and oxen but it will take time and also, it is difficult and time-consuming to do heavy draft work like plowing with animals. You can plow an acre a day with a team of horses and a bit less with oxen. I have considered phasing in draft animals for jobs that do not need as much power such as haying, seeding and cultivating and keeping the tractors for plowing and disking.

I am in the other end of Northern Ontario, in the New Liskeard area. You can do almost anything in unorganized townships unless it violates federal or provincial laws. I know that there are laws about wetlands and your friend may get into trouble with this idea. It would be a good idea to check with the Ministry of Natural Resources about this. I know that many heavy equipment operators are paranoid about working too close to the water because of these laws.

I am in the process of setting up a community on my 300 acre farm in Northern Ontario and am looking for like minded people who are up to the challenge and are interested in organic farming, permaculture and off the grid living. I spend much of my time in Toronto but am working towards leaving the big city for good. If any of you are interested or have any questions then PM me or write to N.L.eco.community@mail.com
