My wife fell into the "sun worshiper" and not "too rainy" arena when we were hunting in Western Washington. I spent a year looking and waiting for something good to pop up in the Rain Shadow region (San Juan, Sequim, E. Port Angeles, Port Townsend). Might consider watching those areas for something. We ended up on San Juan Island ourselves. Another reason I found San Juan (the sunniest of the islands) a good choice was knowing that The Bullock's are on Orcas. Different Island but same county, so that alleviated some of the worries about ending up in a place with building codes that weren't accommodating to permaculture practices.

Port Angeles is looking to be the primary target for us. I would love to get something on the North side of the hills that sit at the base of ONP and overlook the town. Though it appears most of that land is Department of Natural Resources. There are some lots mixed in but it looks like it may be hard to come across them. http://cl.ly/image/1L0q0m1M2V1Q (red is DNR land)

Not from there, but those are the areas I'm looking for land to practice permaculture. How are you liking it in that area? My wife and I love the natural beauty of the Cascadia region and want to move out there. I really love the rain, my wife likes it too but wanted a bit more sun, so I figured the area within the rain shadow would be ideal. Would love to hear any feedback about the region. What are you growing out there?
