I've managed to score a teeny tiny garden plot in front of my apartments, now I have the fun of improving heavy clay soils in an urban area. Sand will be mixed in soon, and I'm going to be tilling in dandelions and clover this fall. I can't really compost, unless I manage to get worms at some point. In the meantime, I'm trying this.

I simmer eggshells in water for about half an hour, then add kitchen vegetable scraps and let simmer until the veggies are pulp. If I don't add fresh banana peels, I add banana peel powder (I slice and freeze them for smoothies and dry and powder the peels). I let it cool and add blackstrap molasses and milk for microbial life, and some fish emulsion. Does that sound like it would work?

Do you think I should try shredding my bird's cage paper into this stinky stew? Any zero-budget additions I should consider? What about blood from my meats, or stock? I make my own stock and think I'll be trying to make bone meal. Blood meal might be too much to try to collect and dry, too much energy to produce a small amount, but can I just add it to my stinky stew? What kitchen scraps should I focus on, other than bananas and eggshells?
