I am still working on the same house! I am in Japan to do some research on plastering...I get over here every three or four years.

The chain mortisers are hitachi brand. There are four main brands. Most people seem to favor hitachi and Makita. I can get chisel mortisers too but they are more expensive. I have both but tend to prefer the chain mortiser.

The units available to me are all 12amp 100volt. I have used them in the us without any problems.They run a bit faster perhaps but under load it isn't an issue. They are built very stout.

Hitachi made several models but they are all nearly the same as far as I can tell.

I am building a traditional Japanese house in the US. I am currently in Japan doing some research and have been offered several chain mortisers. I already have one but know how hard they are to source in the US, and how expensive they are. I would be happy to ship these to people. They are used but in good working order. The owner is asking $600 each. Shipping is $100 to the US. New, these cost close to $2000us. I will be here for a few more weeks. Email me if interested.
