Hi Azita!
I am new here too and I relate with your post as My husband and I bought a land in Senegal (his country of origin) and are looking to start a little farm with vocational training for the village located near by. It seems to me, a born and raised Montrealer used to the concrete more than anything else, as a huge challenge! I understand your husband's feelings but I also relate to yours. Its a huge change but it also seems that it will become a necessary change soon with the state of our planet. Anyways; would love to chat some more about this via email if you are interested to exchange on the subject. Take care! Aimee

Hi thanks!

I will change the name ; I am Aimee by the way.

To answer your questions;

the climate there is tropical; hot, humid; rainy season (May to November) has strong southeast winds; dry season (December to April) . The soil is sandy on top and clay under the sand.

right now the property is as we can say under construction. There is a slope that will soon be corrected

the most critical goal is to be self-sufficient, to do market gardening, to help and teach the village around the farm to be able to quit conventional agriculture and embrace permaculture and natural ways to grow food on their own

the terrain is located in a remote area called Tassette; its pretty unoccupied except for a few villages surrounding the area. So far we have a few trees like mango and cashew trees; we are also building a well as we speak.

we also have started to build a natural fence which the local farmers did
in terms of ressources; except the human ressources, we have a bit of equipment we started to purchase lots of seeds (a bit of everything), drip irrigation system, Jang JP-1 push seeder, broad fork, seeders,  equipments for apiculture

we are planning to use super adobe or nubian vault techniques to build some infrastructures on the land which is about 2 acres

in the terms of fire breaks and wind breaks we do have some cashew trees but we were advised to use filao or beef wood (?) some corn and sorghum

thats about all I can think of for now! I appreciate all the precious imput you can give us and hope to read you soon!

Hi! We are a couple who recently purchased a land in Senegal we now want to turn into a small farm to practice permaculture among other things. We have one acre available and are currently building a well. We want to create a permaculture design plan and need help! We have a few mango trees already planted but the rest of the land is empty. Can anyone help or guide us towards someone who could? We will take any advice offered! thanks!
