Here we are at 72 and 63 years.  We live aboard our sailboat in eastern N.C. As we begin looking at land we have two very different ideas of the ideal home.  My wife wants small town, walk ability, library, shops nearby.  In addition to hers I'm wanting enough area to engage my gardening and tool related interests.  We both put the "feel" of a place at the top.  Maybe there is a place where these two divergent desires can be met?

If you can get to the coast look us up for a visit.  We're in Oriental.

Jennifer,
If that is still a consideration for you and if you're able to travel to eastern north carolina we could visit together about our liveaboard experience.

Yes to the idea of a "not so big house".  My understanding of a tiny house is smaller than we'd like.

About 50 years ago I was developing a permaculture homestead in northern California.  We had the 80 acres, put in a year round pond, double dug garden of ~20 beds, drip, solar electricy, hydro, antique apple orchard, various fruit and nut trees.  Then divorce.  Poof.  Now, some 50 years later a new life and living aboard a sailboat.  Alas, while we do love living aboard, my attachment to soil has reemerged.  My wife needs what small towns have.  Not sure what to do about this.  Some choices:  make a 1/3 acre into something, look for other locations, possibly connect with an suitable community...
Thank you, Doug
