Bicarbonate of Soda works well as a deodorant. You can use one of the soap plants to make soap to wash the smelly bits, which are all that need washing. I was my hair once a week, if I am able and it is not too cold. some of the soap left to dry under the arm pits will make good deodorant too. I use a natural soap.

egg yolk is the best and most nourishing shampoo, lathers too.

there are many plants with saponins, including ivy, boil some leaves for a bit, strain and use. Soapwort is another plant you can use. https://lovelygreens.com/9-natural-soap-plants-for-making-lye-free-soap/ Personally I use 1 cup vinegar and a tsp of salt, a bit of bicarb is I want things white and fluffy.
BTW egg yolk makes the best shampoo.

Growing up in Africa in the old days we all had a Rhodesian boiler. A 44 gallon drum on walls with a fire under the drum.
came standard with the houses, the 3 walls were built to support the drum and high enough to gravity feed to the house. The fire box was at eye level.

We lit the fire in the evening so we would have hot water to shower and wash up.

Here is a blog on it, https://rhodesianboiler.blogspot.com/2013/11/my-first-donkey-boiler.html

We could not do straw bales here on the island of Santa Maria in the Azores islands. Not much straw.

There is no topsoil here, just red clay.

We mixed 1 part builders sand, 1 part compost and 1 part clay to make soil for our raized beds, works well.

For Asparagus we did half sand.

been growing here for 5 years.

Thank you for the very kind gesture but the amazon links given take me to a page where only the amazon unlimited is free.

Both on the US and UK site.

Thank you for an interesting article, love that you have given the history and names, but what about quantities? That would be really helpful. No good growing it if you do not know how much of each goes into a mix, 8herb quantities if possible. Thank you again.
