Hello,
I am building a cabin and for the ceiling finish  plan to install Reed mats (or other natural material like split bamboo).

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations as to a good affordable source for them.

Thanks.

I was in a lecture Paul Stamets was giving many years ago and the one thing I remember was him talking about chipping scotch broom and growing oyster mushrooms on it. So neat. I’m moving to a place with tons of scotch broom and even more gorse, and am really looking at various ways to approach gorse other than clear cutting it.

So, any of you have experience or know of people growing oysters in gorse?? I’d love to hear about it. Thanks so much!

Anyone know of examples of clay plaster being used as structural sheathing on a conventionally framed tiny house on wheels?? I know of people using clay finishes on the interior, but what about outside the framing?

I’m thinking about it.. I wanted to do Hempcrete but sourcing the materials is still a challenge.

I also wanted to do post and beam but seems too heavy for the trailer.

So I’m going with conventional stick framing but really am trying to find alternatives to plywood that will still provide structural shear. I’ve looked into MgO but am not going to go with that choice...

So I just read how clay plaster can be structural and I’m very interested. But will it be too heavy?

I am planning to build a tiny house on wheels and have been searching hard for non toxic structural sheathing alternatives to plywood or MgO board.

I just read how clay plasters can provide structural sheathing (!!) and can be used with conventional framing. I’m not finding a lot of info on the web, and would love to hear any advice or tips or resources.

Thanks!

Ps I live in a mild climate in Northern California, and would either apply an exterior finish or do cladding. Would metal cladding be a bad idea? I know lime and metal don’t go well together...

Anyone have experience, opinions or advice about adding wool fiber (from cleaned sheep’s fleece) to cob mixture for walls in a small building?

Thanks!
