I was born and raised near Stl. My whole life I always felt like I didn't fit in. I attribute most of my passions and interests to listening to the stories my great grandmother would tell me about her growing up on the farm. For as long as I can remember I always wanted to live that life. But being stuck in the hustle and bustle of big city life stiffled my dreams. Get a job, find a husband, have some kids, pay your bills, and die is what we were taught. True to my rebellious nature I stumbled through all of that determined to get what I wanted. I found the husband, gave birth to 5 amazing boys and ended up starting my own business! Meanwhile I spent countless hours scouring this website and many others learning as much as I possibly could. I tried my best to save every penny I could, until one day I woke up and said NO MORE! I am buying something! And that is what I did! I managed to find 4 wooded acres in Tennessee and started to clear and build everything I have now. The husband came with, but decided this life wasn't for him after all. So for the last 4 years I've been going at it with just me and the kids. It is debatable if im crazy or not, but I know I'm not alone here, you're out there somewhere. Come join me! Let's finish this together. I made sure to leave some things for you to do.
The house is 12x28 mostly off grid. 1600 watt solar array with back up generator. Water is from the city, but I plan to utilize the creek again with a ram pump like I did before. I plan to do a septic but have looked into the bio-fuel septic and greatly considering that route. Currently I compost with 5 gallon buckets. Wood heat in the winter, and preciously ive not had ac but lucky you get to enjoy summers with it, because the next install is a 24v mini split! Pretty excited about that!! There is plenty of infustructure left to build in order to have goats pigs chickens and rabbits again. Possibly even a cow, or two. My plan is to be as self sufficient as possible growing our food and fodder for the animals and selling the surplus for money.
