My girlfriend and I want to buy a home and settle.  We are not tied to or drawn to anywhere in particular.  We have narrowed our search down to pretty much Northern Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia.  Our previous posts mention moving to a "community" but I feel that may misrepresent what we are actually looking for.  We just want a group of friendly neighbors with community values.  We're the lonely folks walking city crowds because our neighbors live faster and busier than we care to.  I feel like what we are looking for is widely available outside of cities, but we wouldn't know and that doesn't help us narrow our search for home.

We are 34M and 29F.  Monogamous, thanks for asking and sorry to disappoint half of you.  We are driving around these states January-March searching for a place to settle permanently.  We're self-sufficient in our own car.  We're WWOOFing too.  We feel pretty clueless on where to go though.  We're just wandering around aimlessly.  We are looking for a mix of rural and urban life, so maybe 30 - 100 minutes outside of a city is a good sign.  We will need work once we move, and my trade is carpentry.  So if there is work you need done, that would be a tremendous help to me and I'd cut you a deal.

Whether or not you have work though, please reach out so that we might make introductions and perhaps visit with hopes of becoming good neighbors.  Lost folks like us also appreciate directions if you have any.

Thank you!

Hi Allie,

As fortune would have it, my gf and I are looking to move SPECIFICALLY for the purpose of joining a homesteading community.  Western North Carolina has a lot to offer us, but we don't know anyone in the area.  I'm 34 and Natalie is 29.  We have only ever lived in cities so moving to a rural area alone is pretty scary.  The lack of community is the foundational reason WHY we are moving away in the first place, and we admittedly have no tangible homesteading experience.  I build things and dabble in gardening, and I'm armed to the teeth with eco-conscious knowledge, but we reside in a shed (like a tiny home I built) currently so there's not been much opportunity to put it into practice.

I want to be upfront though that we are looking to buy our own private home (mainly for raising kids), and have that home be super plugged into the community with some additional dwellings and some "don't bother knocking, just come in" kind of energy.  Potlucks and frequent visits to yours and ours.  You mention a business venture, and it's worth noting that my degree is in small business entrepreneurship.  I don't think we are the clients you are looking for, but we could be something of a cooperative business beside you if you're open to that.

I am totally new to Permies.  I was directed here from elsewhere on the internet.  Idk how to "add friends" or start private conversations yet.  Maybe I'm already old.  Shoot me a reply however that's normally done.

My gf and I are in our early 30s.  We are moving out of a Texas city to one of the following states for personal reasons in order to build a forever home and start having kids:

North Carolina
Virginia
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Georgia
Tennessee

We have a vision of teaching permaculture to our future kids who run around on the land playing with other peoples' kids.  We have a fear of moving somewhere new and being alone.  I do not have the knowledge or capacity to form the community we desire from the ground up after we move.  Please help us by pointing and welcoming us to homesteading communities in these states.  We need lots of hands on help.

If anyone is interested in having us, I am an adept carpenter with a passion for building minimalist housing like tiny homes.  I hope to become a firefighter as well wherever I move to.  I have a business degree in growing small businesses.  My hobbies are nerdy.  My girlfriend is a baker who manages a vintage clothing store.

I would hate to move somewhere that sounds good logistically online but has no community for us.  I would cry or worse.  We can only move once.  We are prepared to make sacrifices and work hard to attain the life we want.  It's just not a life we want if you're not there.

Desperate for invitations and directions.  Please help or just say hi.  I will likely visit a community once before moving nearby.  Thank you.

PS: I'm also new to this site.  So if someone could point me to where I might find what I'm looking for, I'll act on it and be grateful.
