This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Animal Care.

In this Badge Bit you will clean out an animal shelter, wash the water container, and check the dry supplement.

      - brushing/scraping off dirt and poopies
      - a little DE along the edges and corners to control pests
      - super scrub the water stuff
      - making sure the dry supplements are ample and clean
          - salt
          - kelp meal /minerals
          - calcium (for chickens) (usually oyster shells)
          - baking soda

This badge bit was some much needed motivation to tackle the cobwebs in my duck house.

And, here's the ducks back in their house. Since some random predator has been coming around recently, and eating them even in their protected yard, they're hanging out in their house all day unless I'm watching them. So, a good cleaning of their house was definitely in order! (The little fenced off area in the bottom right is to protect the mama and her babies who just hatched yesterday. My ducks have a propensity to try to steal each other's babies!)

Here is my chickshaw cleaning.

The chickens free range during the day so I haven't been supplementing dry minerals. Lots of bugs here for calcium and plenty of dry silty soil for dust baths.

Tough call about the dry supplements but after reading the description & the requirements a few times I'm calling this BB certified. For what it's worth mine free range & only get supplements during winter. Nice coop!!!

Cleaning out the chicken coop.  The coop came with a metal slide-out floor.  I cut slats in it to allow most of the manure to fall through (Salatin/Rhodes style), but the edges were sharp so I wrapped them with duct tape for protection.  I'm new to owning chickens (less than one year) and to be honest, the only dry supplement I've done so far (besides dust bath) is grit (in the ricotta cheese container).  Per this badge bit, I've significantly expanded my dry supplements (now using the base of an egg carton).  I also raked up the carbonaceous diaper bedding that had spilled out of the wire mesh on the sides of the chicken run and transferred to the compost pile, then added DE around the edges.

Not having larger animals, the best that I can do for this BB is to clean out the chook house.
To ensure that I can maximise my learning opportunity, I do a journal as well so that as I learn more, I can add to it.
We have 6, used to be 9 but three died of old age in the last month,  heritage chooks.  This BB is centred around cleaning the chook house which is attached to the end of the green house,
It is also an ideal time to sweep the floor of the green house, especially around the feed bins.  Note to self: Read ALL the requirements !!

I cleaned the chicken coop.
The chickens free range and generally keep the litter on the floor of the chicken coop well-turned, so their coop does not require frequent cleaning except for the addition of new bedding (preferably leaf litter, but pine shavings when that's not available) and a bit of edge-scraping, but now a good clean-out was clearly in order. I removed the waterers and nesting boxes, dug out the litter for the compost heap, and scraped and swept all the edges. Then I brushed the nesting boxes clean and scrubbed the waterers well with baking-soda-water paste. I put down a new layer of pine shavings, applied diatomaceous earth to the nesting boxes and added fresh nesting material, replaced the waterers, and added a pile of crushed oyster shell as a free-choice supplement.

Here is my bunny shelter cleanup. It is very cold here in the winter, I maintain the shelter weekly. In spring, summer and fall I do a full sanitation, but this is not possible in winter as the cleaning products freeze on surface contact. This is my winter cleanup.
