This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Electricity.

In this Badge Bit, you will move a lead acid battery to the shop, charge it and return it to its home.

Chargers vary, if you have a manual one, you need to watch it during the charge cycle to make sure you don't over do it.  



To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
  - charge a lead acid battery

To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must provide:
   - a picture of the battery hooked up to the charger
   - a picture of the charged battery back in its home location/equipment

I ended up using my car battery. It was being used for winching my pigs for slaughter day. It was able to do 2 whole pigs and still function. It was reading low however. voltage 12.18v


I hooked it up to our house solar system

after about 5 hours of charging. Voltage show 12.81v


Installed in the car again!

This is my first BB for the electricity sand badge!

The battery I charged was the 12-volt lead acid battery that charges our electric fence. Our recharging station includes a 50-watt solar panel and MPPT charge controller on a cart.

Truck wouldn't start the other day and it turns out the battery is 6 years old!  (Just got it a couple of months ago)

I took it out, charged it, put it back in, and drove to the auto shop to get a new one.

This is my BB submission for Sand charging a battery. The battery is in the front of the mower and there is not enough space to get the charger leads attached.  So that sucker just had to come out to be charged.  I always complete a learning journal so as my knowledge improves, I can add information.  As I discovered, they write books on batteries and more books of charging and maintenance.

My truck’s charging system was acting up, so I had to sort it out. It ended up being loose battery terminals ( needed new bolts) and the wire from the alternator to the battery was bad. This is one of two batteries in my diesel truck that I charged back up so as to not put too much strain on the alternator.

Hey PEP-folks,
My concrete mixer trailer has a 12V water pump system, and a battery bucket onboard. I guess the little solar charger panel was not keeping up with it, and the battery was down to 3V when I pulled it out and took it to my shop. Victron makes nice chargers, way more data-rich than the Autozone-shock-box I use for the cars. After a day on the Victron on "Recondition", it was holding 12.2V very nicely, so I put it back.
