This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Commerce

Develop a residual income stream that brings in at least $5 per year.

Here is a Big List of Real Residual Income Streams

Requirements:
     - Must bring in at least $1.99 before this BB is complete
     - Describe how this will continue to bring in an income for at least a few years
     - For purposes of PEP, it must be something you developed
              - Product development, residuals, royalties and pensions count
              - Not something you bought your way into (investment, dividend, CD, etc)
              - Not something that happened to you (insurance claim, accident payout, inheritance, etc)
   - This income must be able to continue to come to you even if you're on a mountain top for 3 years without internet access

To get certified for this BB, post the following:
   - A description of your income stream and how this will continue to bring in an income for at least a few years
   - A link to something that validates the income stream exists
   - Proof it made $1.99 or more (needs to identify you but you can smudge out other personal info)

I wrote an e-book called Clean With Cleaners You Can Eat and put it for sale on the permies.com digital market.  I haven't actually done any marketing or stuff like that yet, and it's already earned money!  Although it did get a couple of nice mentions from Paul Wheaton during his recent Kickstarter.

I also set up a 50% affiliate on that product, so other people could promote it and gain their residual income badge from that.  hint, hint.

I run the website Wild Homesteading which is a blog. Through this blog I write about working with nature, homesteading, permaculture, etc. When appropriate I use affiliate links to products on permies and Amazon. My traffic has been growing steadily and I have been bringing in some nice income from my affiliate links.

I promote each post the week it goes live but then for the most part the post becomes passive and becomes a residual income stream.

In 2019 I have made the following.

Amazon Affiliate: $107.44

Permies Affiliate: $96.50

In 2019 I also made $26.67 from 2 products I put up on the permies digital market place. I have done nothing to promote those products--they were put up on the digital market to be part of the early-bird special for Paul's recent kickstarter. But I'm thrilled that people have been purchasing them too!

In total from affiliate programs in 2019 I have so far made $203.94 plus the $26.67 from my 2 products for a total of $230.61.

The following images are screenshots showing the amounts.

I know the big list of residual income mentions royalty checks. Is it totally rude to use an oilfield royalty for this BB?

Wow.

So it gets the job done, but the oilfield is contrary to our values.   At the same time, most people getting sand badges are still using oil quite regularly.

I'll allow it.

I know it's against your values and the values of PEP. It's against mine, too. I'm now the third owner of the thing.

Honestly, I'd figured you'd say 'no', but I'm trying to practice "assume less, and ask more." Thus, what probably sounded like a pretty bone-headed question. I will try to couch those kinds of questions better.

I endeavour to not use it for the badge. I'd much rather learn the skills of properly creating compelling residual income products.

I sell eggs from my layer hens (average of 4 dozen a week) and honey when my bees can afford to share some. Most of the customers are at my husband's office and pay him in cash and I never see a penny (we call it his lunch money), but the cashless crowd send me money via PayPal, leaving me with sufficient documentation of about $75 in 2018, and so far $10 this year, which should qualify me for both this, AND likely also the "goods" BB.

Penny, I think that counts for the goods one, but not this one? This one is for something you do once, and then it keeps bringing in money. Could you post this over in https://permies.com/wiki/115132/PEP-BB-commerce-sand-selling so I can certify it for you? Thanks!

Thank you!!

To clarify, my books are on different homesteading niches for beginners - chicken keeping, foraging, medicinal herb gardening, frugal living, home business with little to no start up costs etc.

I make a passive income stream from my music in two ways, downloads and streaming.  Downloads come from Bandcamp.com, streaming revenue comes from a variety of platforms(Spotify and Apple Music being the biggest), all funneling through a service called CD Baby.  Below are receipts for about a year.  You can check out the music here: Bandcamp and Spotify

I've been selling custom instructions for LEGO models, that I created, for years. Both on my web site at http://lionsgatemodels.com and more recently on Etsy (along with some other downloadables). Both are entirely passive income.

Here are screen shots of my etsy account. Etsy shop is at https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/LionsGatePrintables

Hi! I make a rolling amount of money from the music I make in my home studio- and I work as sound recordist in my non permie life so also sell any interesting sound effects I gather. The link to my profile is here - https://www.pond5.com/artist/blueowlstudiosuk. I've even managed to make a little bit of money recording my dog growling - the file named pippa below :)

Hi All!
Excited to join the permies forums and start earning BBs! Please excuse my noob mistakes in advance, like posting in all the wrong places, dumb questions, etc. The forum is quite a lot to take in when you first show up (in a wondrous way)!

My submission for residual income stream is my online self-paced courses at Fermenters Club Academy (an offshoot of my main blog, Fermenters Club.)

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to my first BB!

It's not specifically permaculture-related, but it is a residual income stream!

Description: I wrote an ebook and self-published it online. It's a getting-started guide for Realtors and real estate professionals who want to start a business presence on social media. It doesn't sell a lot, but it's earned me $6.45 so far this year. (Note: It's published under my deadname, which I still use for professional purposes as it would be next to impossible for me to work in my not-lgbt-friendly area if I came out and used my preferred name/pronouns. If you need additional proof that Jalyn Ely is still me, I can provide it, although I'd prefer to do so privately.)

Link: https://www.amazon.com/Social-Media-Real-Estate-Agents-ebook/dp/B07B2R8YSX/

Proof that it made at least $5: See included screenshot from my bank account.
bankaccount.jpg
I covered the bank name since it's a local credit union and may identify where I live a little too closely for my comfort.

Thanks Rob! To be fair, I know almost everyone who bought my book too - I used to work at the top Century21 Real Estate office in the United States as marketing support staff, so 99% of my sales come from those connections. I specifically wrote it for Realtors instead of as a general "social media for business" book because I already had a market there and I could capitalize on that :)

Hi. I illustrated a few books and get royalties when these books are sold. But it isn't very much and the amount is different each year. It can be even under $5.
The editor pays once a year (end of the year) and then I get an e-mail in Dutch. What shall I do?

Now the requirements are for only $1.99 so that might help.  I'd think if you post your evidence with a bit of translation for us, that would work.  And you can use last year's payment to get the BB.

For publisher Mira Loves Books I illustrated a few children's books. For each book that's sold I receive a small percentage as royalties. Once a year I receive that amount on my bank account and the publisher sends me an e-mail about the payment.
Of course it's all in Dutch, I'll do my best to give you a translation.

Here's a link to the page about the children's books at the website of Mira Loves Books:
http://miralovesbooks.nl/boeken/jeugd/
There are two books illustrated by me. My name is clearly visible on them. They are in the last two rows.

This was the e-mail about the royalties of last year (printscreen).

'Credit factuur'= credit note
'wij hebben het bedrag overgemaakt' = we transferred the amount
'bijlagen'= annexes, attachments

I hope this will do. Or ask me.

I signed up to be a designer on Ravelry.com in December of 2019. I post my original knitting and crochet patterns for sale on the website in my own "Janet Bailey Designs" store:
https://www.ravelry.com/designers/janet-bailey/patterns
(screenshot below).
After developing, testing, and posting my patterns, further input can enhance sales but is not required.
As you can see from the screenshot of my monthly sales records, my sales peaked in March and May, probably due to promotions. However, if I wanted to go "float in the middle of the ocean for a year" (or focus on developing our homestead garden and nursery), sales can go on independent of further work inputs. As I continue to post additional patterns and develop collections, the potential income stream can grow.
My goal for these patterns is mainly to contribute to the Ravelry community - to give back some of what I have received from so many generous people. I have a number of free patterns posted in my store, but income earned from pattern sales does help me to buy materials and supplies and motivates me to share more designs - some free and some for a small return. This has really been a lot of fun and has given me opportunities for learning and friendships in the Ravelry community.
The last screenshot shows free patterns (two have more than 100 unique downloads) and paid patterns by price and numbers of sales.

Building off my "fame" in the art metalsmithing community I've worked with a custom toolmaker to develop my own signature raising hammer, known as the "Huang Raising Hammer".

I promote them on my website as does Saign Charlestein of SC Studio LLC, who actually makes them.  When a hammer sells I get a residual for helping to develop it and endorsing it with my name as my hammer.  The amount varies depending on whether I'm also getting an affiliate fee for directing the sale to his site from my site, or whether it's someone buying it straight from his site.

In the past 3 months my residuals amounted to $188.50 which I'm supporting with a screenshot of an email from Saign and the check received.  The way things are going this is likely to become his second best selling hammer providing a small income stream for years to come.

This make take a little bit to explain. One of the digital assets I invest in is the Tron Token ( Think Bitcoin, but a lot smaller and a lot cheaper)

Tron blockchain consensus is achieved via Delegated Proof of Stake. Investors can leverage their crypto via voting. Currently there are 3 options to earn passive income and staking rewards with your Tron investment.

Rewards distribution ratio is Voter rewards: 100%

To help explain the pictures I will walk you thru what is going on. In Picture A it shows I'm Staking 3645 TRX, or 3645 votes on the Tron Blockchain, since I'm giving those votes to TronWallet, that are giving me a daily return of .9 TRX (Picture B)

As long as I keep my 3645 TRX in Freeze statue, and also giving the vote to one of the Super Representatives (in this case TronWallet) i will continue to receive daily .9TRX As you see in Picture A I have 116.098 TRX available all of these are from staking over the last 120 days.

Based on the current value of TRX ~.025USD (Top Part of Picture A) in the last 120 days I've made $2.88 USD (below the Token Tab on Picture A) TRON(TRX) does change in price daily, it's been as high as .05 USD and as low as .021 USD. If I stake for another 120 days and the price staying .025 USD per TRX token.

Staking 3645 TRX for 365 days at ~.025 AVG per token would be $9.64.

Tron Token is just one of the many Digital Assets, or Crypto-Currency you can stake and earn an passive income on. I also stake a few other coins/token in different ways.

If anyone has any question or would like help understanding this better I will be more the happy to walk you thru this, or just show you how it can be done. Feel Free to send me a message.

Hello! Here's my submission for the PEP Commerce badge:

My residual income stream comes from a series of mystery novels I self-published between 2014-2016. These are available in print, ebook, and audiobook. They continue to provide a small passive income stream without any additional work on my part.

The Dreamslippers Series - a cozy mystery series about a family of psychic yogi crime solvers: https://www.catintheflock.com/dreamslippers-series.html

The annual income fluctuates, but here's just one month solely on the audiobook.

I also set up a 50% affiliate on that product, so other people could promote it and gain their residual income badge from that.  hint, hint.

How do we participate in the permies affiliate program?

Here's some info on it.  If you post your item in the digital market, others can get a code and when they successfully direct people to that item and they buy it, they get a cut of the sales.  How to set up a thread in the Digital Market

I don't have a product to sell. I want to sell your permies products and earn a commission.

There are some threads on the site somewhere about it.  Maybe search for Affiliate Program and they'll show up?  I'm not sure myself but I'm sure it can be done.

Here is my submission for the Commerce - Sand - Develop a Possible Residual Income Stream BB.

Walt and I co-manage the Windward Education and Research Center and the Biomass 2 Methanol Project.  About six years ago we set up the True Friends concept (based on true fans - in a time before Patreon) to provide an income stream specifically for the B2M project.  The attached webpage describes the donation option and redirects people to their PayPal account to set up a one-time or recurring payment.  Most people choose to do recurring and the first on the list (Web Centric Marketing) was been attributed to my efforts and the second one on the list ("Joy) is attributed to Walt's efforts to recruit True Friends.  This is a monthly subscription that happens automatically until the client/donor chooses to go in and edit the payment in PayPal.

While the donations go to the project's bank account (not mine), the amount is deducted from my monthly dues so it is "making me money" and continues whether I'm working on the project or taking a sabatical.

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided the following:
    - a description of your income stream
    - a link to it
    - a picture of proof it made $1.99 or more - $10 this month and has been ongoing (monthly) for over 5 years

Note: If you float in an ocean for a year will your bank account grow or would B2M's?
