This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Animal Care.

For this BB, you will slaughter and clean a pigeon.

There is a heap of good information about how to maximize nutrition, minimize cruelty, and increase efficiency in the process. Here is some useful information:
- Practical Slaughter of Poultry
- Raising Urban Pigeons
- Pigeons for Your Homestead

For this BB, the minimum requirements are:
-Start with 1 Live Pigeon
-Killed in a humane manner
-Processed and either prepared or properly stored within an hour

To document your completion, provide proof of the following as pics or video (less than two minutes):
-Living Pigeon
-Pigeon after slaughter, depicting the method used
-Organs separated into suitable for human consumption / not suitable for humans consumption, next to pigeon feathers

Their subsequent link is 404 (talks directory)

Me I keep a very sharp knife and make sure none of them see what happened to their friend, keep soapy water ziplock for the meat, a bag for clean composting feathers, and a 3rd for the rest. Wash my knife and hands really well so they don't smell the evidence
Behead against the killing tree in one quick slash with it upside down near the base, plastic bag to catch any blood, have it on a bag before you started with its head poking out a cutout corner and hold for a few seconds afterwards until the shakes stop. If the snow is too deep i use the bathroom sink instead of a tree

Tell me how it all turns out. Here is a tiny ad:
