This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Natural Medicine.

For this BB, you will harvest, dry, and store enough culinary sage leaf to make a tea, infusion or decoction.

To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must post:
- a picture of the fresh herb being harvested
- a picture of your herbs drying (hanging, in a dehydrator, in a bag, etc.)
- a picture of your herbs in a sealed and labeled container, with the label indicating where the herbs came from, the method of drying, and the date

Note: Nice job, Nikki! Doesn't that feel good?

Staff note (Nikki Roche) :

It does! I find I have to adjust recipes that call for dried sage since freshly dried is so much more potent and flavorful.

I harvested some sage from our garden and dried in the oven for future use. Sage has such a unique aroma, which it definitely kept through drying. I think it has an almost slightly fishy / brine smell, or maybe that is the "pungent" quality others describe? Either way, it is delicious infused into butter. I will have to find more ways to put it to use, since its growing very well this year!

SAGE!!!  This plant came up for the first time this year from seeds I tossed out in the back yard two years ago, a nice surprise.

I harvested Sage at WL during the SKIP 2024 event. I was delighted to harvest from a polyculture and it was a comedy transporting herbs through TSA to bring home.

- a picture of your herbs drying (hanging, in a dehydrator, in a bag, etc.)

We have lots of sage, so this wasn’t too hard. I dried it using an old pant hanger, which worked nicely, because I could just sandwich the stems in between the two sides.

Dried sage leaves. Air drying was taking a long time so I finished in the dehydrator.
