This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Nest.

In this Badge Bit, you will set up a semi-permanent outside eating/gathering/relaxing area.  Perhaps a picnic table or 3 log bench...

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
   - semi-permanent weather resistant seating for 2 or more people

To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must provide proof of the following with pictures (or a video < 2 mins long):
   - before, during, and after of setting up a semi-permanent outside eating/gathering/relaxing area
   - demonstrate it meets the above stated requirements

This is where we hang out especially on a Friday evening, with drinks and small plates of food and watch the world go by. I love having a covered space at the front of the house - I'm sure there's a word for it, I just don't know what it is. It seems to be a very American thing and you'd be labeled as a bit nutty in the UK if you sat in your porch!

Once the weather thaws we will build a roof over the deck off the kitchen, but until then this BB gave us the idea to set up a seating area in the carport. It's a great sheltered place to sit and drink morning beverages [eating, gathering], but even better it's exactly what we needed for putting snowshoes on/off and relaxing after the hike!

So "weather resistant" applies to roofing, not the furniture? This will be more important if/when I submit larger gathering areas. IIUC, a giant fire pit with stone and log seating for 8 will not qualify for the next bb unless it has a roof? Just checking!

Weather resistant is a flexible term. We've been discussing this badge bit. It might get some revision soon.

I think (and I am not Paul), that:
A roof helps resist weather
Some types of wood (cedar, black locust) are weather resistant.
Stainless steel hardware and some other alloys and metal finishes are somewhat weather resistant.

There are multiple ways to demonstrate it, but if they aren't clearly demonstrated then we have to either mark incomplete or ask for more evidence.

When I do BBs, I document my learning by journaling it.  As I get more information I can add to the journal.  The Journal will form a book of my SkIP journey.

The BB is submitted for consideration.

We have wanted a patio set on our back porch for awhile. We only bought 2 chairs, but we may add 2 more later.

This is where we gather and eat outside or read.
The table is a glass top with a metal frame.  The chairs are metal frame with plastic weave. We use our beach umbrella for shade.

Of course, I found a very beautiful couch. Definitely. And this tiny ad:
