So for those of us from the age of fortran.
How is that done exactly? Do I just copy and past it somewhere and the rest is done automatically, remember this is all magic to me .

Nope, these are just images that you can use and put a link to permies with them. Here is a sample:

I really like these ones BUT I think they are too detailed, if it gets much smaller you won't be able to see the picture. It is so cute though.

So let's take a look at some possible scenarios.

Scenario 222) http://www.nwedible.com/ (note the list of icons near the top, on the right: youtube, twitter, rss, pinterest ...) --- so, what would the permies icon look like on that list? I think we could have a thread all about nwedible here at permies - and that icon could link to that thread.

Scenario 223) http://www.groworganic.com/ (note the icons near the bottom of the page on the right: youtube, fb, g+ ....) --- what would the permies icon look like on that list? We already have a thread for them - the icon could link to their thread.

Scenario 224) http://www.patternliteracy.com/ (toby's site has one facebook link near the top) --- maybe we could have something similar just below it.

Scenario 225) http://www.thegreenhorns.net/

Scenario 226) http://www.permaculture.co.uk/

Scenario 227) http://www.homestead.org/

Scenario 228) http://pantryparatus.com/

Scenario 229) http://mudproject.org/

Scenario 230) http://www.homeresource.org/

Scenario 231) http://oasisdesign.net/

Scenario 232) http://www.krameterhof.at/

Yeah I really like this idea. Would the thread just be a space for them to post their stuff? And for people to ask questions and stuff?

A thread can be a place for them to post their stuff and for people to comment on. And people can "like" or give apples.

And I think that everything here has been a fun image. I'm just thinking what is going to be our final image. What is going to be the image that is recognized if it should appear on a thousand websites with a few dozen minor variations.

Facebook has the "f" and twitter has the bird and pinterest has the "p" .... I just now had a thought that we could be a drop of water - is there anything else out there (social media) shaped like a drop of water?

I don't think any other social media site has the drop of water. I just did a quick little internet search and all I found was that sometimes people put all of their social media stuff into drop shaped form like this:

Ah, Leila 'tis true! Thanks for that.

Paul, just a thought, does this matter because of the "social media" aspect you will be using it for.? I mean PRI has forums but I am not sure they are going for the same idea as you are. Do you get what I am saying? Or is the drop of water just totally out?

Here are a few that just came in:

I like both of those ideas. I think the tree with deep roots might be too hard to see when it is really tiny though.

Just FYI - PRI is indeed planning to do a similar thing - create a social media button - according to their editor, Craig McIntosh. They will probably use their water drop logo.

I think it would be fun to have an icon with a picture of Paul's "roar" face.

Or a pair of overalls....
