Realized that I actually have a couple of the commerce BBs already, so I’m going to try to get the proof together over the next couple days!

I made a denim whale from old hole-y jeans and a combination of a couple patterns I found online just for fun and posted it on social media. A friend of mine saw it and commissioned another from me! The original designer requested that people not sell items made from their pattern, and I wanted to alter the way the tail was attached anyway, so that worked out.

I don’t have in-progress photos of the second whale being made, but I’m hoping that’s enough to prove it.

We had a few extra Ducks, Rabbits and small Mushroom logs. When folks buy our animals or produce we always include a short pamphlet telling them all the cool things that what they are buying will help them out with. Ducks are great mousers, help build ponds and keep smaller predators away , Rabbits are Friends you can eat, but also make you little compact balls of fertilizers for easy placement in your house plans or garden plots. We also include basic care instructions, our email and phone number if they happen to have any questions. Included below is one transaction that day via square.

Hi all,

We run an Etsy store, LittleSproutingSeeds, from which we sell natural jewelry, crocheted crafts (using wool rescued from the waste stream via charity stores, home clearance, etc.) and plants that we have cultivated on our property. All of our products are as sustainable as we can realistically make them. Etsy seems to be a good outlet for these products and we have had some really positive feedback so far. As we acquire a large plot (in the works) and free up some more time, we hope to expand this venture with home-spun wool, additional plants and items made from timber that we have grown on-site.

To clarify, "we" is my partner and I. I am responsible for the jewelry and she is responsible for the crocheted products. We make all of our products, however. I've attached another image showing the sales for just the lemon thorn tapers which, alone, exceed $50.

I sold an original watercolor painting to a friend for $50. It was inspired by a picture of a llama that she took on her trip to Peru. We had some great conversation about the permaculture like practices of the indigenous people who like and farm there currently as well as the amazing agro-forestry that was practiced by the ancient civilizations of Peru. This painting, as is true most of my painting subject, is of something that could be found on a permaculture sight. I also give a nod to permaculture values by using Daniel Smith watercolor paints which is a brand that does not use the heavy metals found in many paint brands. They have the highest environment standards in the industry.

This is a software alpha sale (pre-pre-presale) of a mealworm breeding/production calculator, for generating mealworm goodness intended to be used as feed treats for chickens, etc. The package that the client purchased was an early alpha + fully supported beta when the software is open, and the lifetime of the software's support. It's actually kinda nifty software, too. Lot of research went into it. The cost was 30 USD, but the client is from Germany, and had issues with the processing fee to round it to an even thirty, so gave me a few dollars tip. haha

EDIT: I accidentally missed Client name blocking in the original screenshot. I also added a preview image of the alpha calculator, per request.

my neighbor started a new diet and wanted to only eat steak and eggs. I cannot yet oblige the steak, but hope to be able to next year. He wanted only the best eggs. This conversation happened in person, so it may seem contrived, but i needed proof somehow since it'd be hard to show the actual transaction without compromising my OpSec. I knitted a hat and hand warmers set for a commission and sold it for £40 (~54USD). The set was made using all natural materials (100% British wool).

I've attached photos of the yarn, knitting process and the messages between me and the buyer to show the agreed price and collection by the buyer. They paid cash so I haven't attached a picture of payment (I still have the exact notes used if pictures are required?)

Thank you for replying Mike, I don't post pictures unless faces are blurred/out of frame for privacy reasons.

I had hoped agreed price and collection time would be sufficient, as a picture of two people exchanging cash for a box (the items were packaged up because Scotland is always rainy) would be easy enough to fake so you would have to trust that I was honest about that. If not then I will have to wait until I can set up an online business and have a digital transaction which is easier to evidence. :)

Thanks to the above discussion with Mike around how I wouldn't be able to prove a cash transaction, I remembered I had sold a knitted item a while back and got paid by bank transfer, hopefully this will qualify!

The job was a colourwork jumper sample, in 100% wool, and the agreed price was £55 plus postage at £6.50. I have attached the invoice and a screenshot of my bank statement showing payment received.

I have developed a steady income from producing jams, relishes and pickled vegetables from and selling through a co-operative. WE try to source the fruits and vegetables in season to cut down on food miles and reduce the risk of poison sprays being used as opposed to commercial, chemically agumented produce To ensure that I can maintain my learning for PEP and add more information, I write a journal. The journal and required photographs are shown below for consideration. The production record shows consistent production over 12 months of 2021 including a downturn during COVID-19 lock down. The two direct deposit (DD) transfers show that there is a consistent income generated greater than $US 20 per month.

So we (me and my partner) hold bees and sell honey. Incomes are split 50/50 between us. The honey is exclusively sold via Vipps, a payment app that everyone in Norway use, and of course, all information and transfers are in Norwegian. So making the sales "provable" here have required some thinking and translation... please bear with me

Permaculture nod:
- all hives are wood only (no plastic - except the grey feeding trays which we got used and hope to replace with something wooden if possible)
- the honey jars are mostly re-used/repurposed (not new), and designed to be easily re-used by the customer (no glue). Also, the customer pays 10 Nok (about 1 dollar) for the glass itself, and will get this deposit back if they ever return it to us - again, to promote re-use.
- the bees are brown bees - hardy and the least domesticated/most "wild" honeybee type here.

Oopsie.

I thought of this kind of like a LIC (Labor Investment Collective, chapter 53 in the SKIP book). And thought it would be okay, as I documented over twice (thrice, actually) the income needed for the BB. Perhaps the person who approved the BB thought likewise. But reading over the specific requirements for the LIC BB just now, I see that a LIC needs to be at least six persons, so then me and my partner in crime won't qualify. And I should probably have documented that even though we were two persons, *I* have practiced all the tasks involved, from getting the bees to selling the honey...?

And - I can imagine the same issue popping up with several other BBs. For example, if we do the hügelkultur BB, we will likely help each other out with the other person's hügel. Would it qualify if we documented that each of us had done all the tasks involved? Or would it still not qualify, as we are just two persons collaborating, and not six?

Just poking a stick into some possible snags in the system

(or giving an example of how a newbie like me might miss something that is explained eminently well somewhere else on the forum)

Hi Ane! The challenge with these is proving that you did all the little bits. Often people specialize (for instance, I'll do the online payment stuff if you process the honey). So it's really hard to prove you can do all the parts when you team up.

When you do the hugel, just build two in a row. Then you can each build your own, together, at the same time. If one needs a hand with a heavy log, no biggie. But that way we know that you have the gumption to build a whole hugel by yourself (and so does your partner when they submit their BB)

I held a workshop for foraged goods and charged for it. It was $15 a participant. 11 people registered. That makes $165 in one ordeal.

The proof I am showing of sale are text message invitations being accepted. Then vemno shows 3 of them paid me through vemno, so it's more than the required total for the bb.

I started making beef jerky to reduce the snacking I was doing at work. I let some friends try it and decided I would start selling at least enough to break even. Well now I’ve made over $500 in just a few months. Most of what I’ve made has been bottom round from the local deli down the road.

I (and my mom) make cat toys and sell them! These are almost exclusively made from discarded materials that I get by dumpster diving. Any stuffing comes out of tossed pillows and most of the fabrics are cutoffs from my mom's sewing projects (she also gets a lot of fabric free or cheap from friends or at garage sales, etc.). Socks and other articles of clothing are also used.

We have been selling primarily at local craft shows, but I have added them to one of my websites and am working on marketing the website so hoping to start getting sales that way soon.

I crocheted a “dog snood” and sold it for $25+ shipping.

Forgot to get a good “halfway” picture of the creation process, but hopefully you can see that I did it myself. Also including pictures of the conversation between myself and the buyer along with her payment via Venmo.

A few years back I used to knit things to sell at a local craft shop. Below is an example of the mitts for kids I used to make and an invoice for one of the month of my sales from the shop. I sold 4 pairs of snowy mitts that month for £31.50 altogether (which is more than $20). When I got a full-time job in 2015 I stopped having things in the shop but there is no reason I could not go back to doing this.

Edited to show my notebook with the pattern for the mitts and snowflake that I designed. Otherwise I guess I could knit another pair?

Edge case submission

Here is my submission for this badge bit! I sell sometimes garlic to friend but rarely have proof of it. This time it was an internet payment, so it was easier to use it for this badge bit. It was for 2pounds of garlic at 15$/pound.

For the tip of the hat to the permaculture values, i can say that the garden has never seen machinery, every work in it is done by hand. No more digging is done except for the 1year in the new spaces. All the grounds as mulch everywhere. I still do it with my battery mower recharged by my solar system, but at least it is very local mulch. All the compostis done by hand on the property too.

For fun i will use the 12principles too
The Principles of Permaculture
Principle #1: Observe and Interact: I choosed garlic farming because onion didn't did well in my garden and local garlic was in demand
Principle #2: Catch and Store Energy: By using homegrown mulch for mulching, feed and litter for the rabbit, for the compost toilet, all that going in the compost nourishing the garden.
Principle #3: Obtain a Yield: 5-600 bulbs of garlic is a good yield !
Principle #4: Apply Self-regulation and Accept Feedback: No pesticide, natural control of pest using bird, toad, bats, hand picking and diversity
Principle #5: Use and Value Renewable Resources: solar panel and mulch
Principle #6: Produce No Waste: everything goes to the compost
Principle #7: Design from Patterns to Details. Using knowledge from reading and pdc to do that
Principle #8: Integrate – Do Not Segregate: rabbits and chicken are free in summer and profit from the garden production
Principle #9: Use Small and Slow Solutions: using only hand tool on the property, except for the chain saw and mower (work in progress)
Principle #10: Use and Value Diversity: using when i an compagnonship in the garden and having small walkway between the row and having many king of permanent and annual vegetable.
Principle #11: Use Edges and Value the Marginal: using edges for toad habitat and flowers and solar heat stocking
Principle #12: Creatively Use and Respond to Change

I've always loved wood-working! I recently acquired a wood turning lathe. Thus I was pretty exited when someone asked for a custom made dibber. (Which is a tool for poking holes in the ground for planting.)
It took a little while, but I was able to get it finished layer that day. I enjoyed the challenge, and the rewards as well!

Howdy PEP-folks,
See, lots of these BBs are just "things we do", and I have to go back and document them in the appropriate format. Hopefully that is in the spirit of demonstrating that yep, we are on our way to being able to handle a homestead.

This year we raised pigs! Kune-kunes, to be precise. That's Maori for "fat-fat", and yes, it is accurate. We have a boar, "Snortly", a sow, "Portly", and currently just one on the hoof, "Porky". The litter this January was 7 healthy piggies, we sold two barrows to a friend at ~6wks, and then raised the remaining 5. Three of those five were contracted to friends, in an arrangement where we raised them in our pen, brought them to the butcher, and then the contract holder picked up and paid for their pork. This method keeps legality in AZ, as we never sold pork, just sold services. Sigh. Laws.

But I don't have a stock trailer, like a chump.

So I had to build the Chevy bed into a stock pen, and then lift 4 obstreperous hogs into it using a crate and the tractor. This took, um, longer than I anticipated. But it worked. Then off to Miller's SW Processing up towards town, and a few more shenanigans to get the hogs out of a truck bed (they slide on a ramp, whee), and then they were the butcher's problem. Now, we have pork in our freezer from one of them, and our friends all have lots of good fresh pork too, and we got money. The pigpay file is from the family that split a hog with another one, so double that amount per hog for the first 6mos of raising, then people paid a month-to-month fee until butchering, then they paid a transport fee. We did not make a killing, but we did not take a loss, and it was all around satisfactory.

Kunes are a fatty pig. Great for lard (should have a rendering lard post sometime soon). The meat is delicious, especially if you like fat. Did I mention they were fat? However, they are a slower grower than a Berkshire or a Duroc. We butchered at about 8mos of age, at about 160lb-200lb per pig (guesstimated), and I got back 120lb from the butcher, of which 20lb was fat. They are fat.

Snortly is in with Portly again, so we hope to repeat the process in the coming year. If they'll oblige.

I've been making and selling comfrey salves with my own comfrey. I mainly sell on Facebook marketplace and I had an order today for 12 salves. The salves are $8 per ounce so the total was $96, but when she asked for a discount since she was buying so many, I dropped it to $94. She paid via Venmo. See proof of sale in pictures.

I sold a large bottle of Rest Easy tincture to Rose for $25. I harvested the ingredients from my property and have included images of 2 ingredients valerian and skullcap (the chamomile is done already) Rose Zelled the money to me so I have a screen shot of it.
