Make a sign - PEP BB dimensional.sand.sign

I made a wood burned sign for my little barn! I did some trimming to the wood once the burning was finished to make it look more neat.

I made a sign for a geological feature I named after my wife.

I have once again made a wood burned sign! I oiled it with linseed oil. I put a quote I really like that I think is very relevant to SKIP. I mounted it on the three log bench I made earlier, and I made sure to include measurements this time. I also measured the previous sign I made, and it was definitely too small. Thanks to the person who reviewed my previous submission for maintaining the standards of PEP! Also my photos are a bit out of order, so sorry about that.

With a crazy storm approaching, I had a spare few hours. So, I thought it would be a good time to finally work on my branded sign. This is my first try using the iron for wood burning.

I'm happy with the turn out.

Also, finished it about 5 mins before the storm blew through and took the power with it! :)

Here's documentation of a wood-burned sign I made. The wood is a scrap, beat-up piece of 2x10 (actually 9 inches wide) I found in the Wheaton Labs woodshop. Length is over 38 inches.





I wanted to try out the ox-acetylene torch for this one. Here's an image of me burning the words with the torch.



I used an orbital sander on the wood surface to remove the scorch from the main surface and leave the darkened letters.



Here's an image of the sign after I applied linseed oil across all surfaces.



Finally: I hung the sign outside underneath the pavilion tent for outdoor dishwashing. Now they have no excuses.

Here's my bb submission for a wood burned sign.

I made a wood burned sign for the dog house.  I started with some Western Red Cedar logs that I milled into 5x6 timbers for a grape arbor project, but also got some 1x6 and other assorted dimensional lumber out of.  For this sign I chose a 1x6 board with one live edge.  I cut it to length to fit mounted under the dog house deck. I printed the words HUND HAUS on 8.5x11 sheet of paper, taped it to the board, and used a router to route right through the paper.  I then removed the remaining paper and burned the letters with a butane torch. Next I sanded the area with the letters to sand off surrounding burnt areas.  Then I applied the oil to make the lettering really stand out and stay that way for longer. Lastly, I mounted the sign using 2.5 inch star drive screws.

I found a nice piece of wood and decided to make a welcome sign for our house.

I need a sign outside my massage office to let people know if I am with a client or open. I'd like it to be a 2-way sign, which I can flip over, like occupied or open signs. I'd also like it to hang on hooks next to the door. So I selected a piece of wood, exactly 5x18 inches, from a box of off-cuts I was gifted. I was told it's very nice wood, whatever that means. Anyways, I sanded it, drilled it to fit the hooks, penciled in a design, and burned it. When I oiled it with linseed oil, the oil sunk in and made the wood CRAZY dark! Like so dark I'm not sure I can use it for a sign anymore, since the burned text is difficult to see. I don't know why it pulled so dark on this wood, but not on my other projects. Maybe it'll lighten up?
On the same day, I oiled my 2-step stool and another sign. The second sign, my apothecary sign, I'll include a few pictures for, since maybe my first sign was previously stained or something. I didn't take as many pictures of it, but I did assemble it from palletwood, and used screws to hold the planks together. I sanded, penciled and burned this one, too, then sealed it with the linseed oil, also. I used it at the Renaissance Fair, for my herb booth!
