We've got a really cool new feature for PIE users! Us moderators have been testing it out for a week to make sure there's no bugs, and I for one LOVE the feature!!! It allows you to get email notifications for whenever someone types a certain word or phrase. For example, I get an email any time someone mentions my name, because I chose to "watch" my name. I find this really handy!

This feature is for PIE users only, but for those of you with PIE, here's how to "Watch a Phrase"

Step
1

Go to Your 'Bookmarks and Watches'

First, go to the top menu of permies. There you'll find a link titled, "Bookmarks and Watches." Click that!

Step
2

Type in the Words and/or Phrases You Want

Scroll down the "Bookmarks and Watches" page until you see "You are watching the following phrases."

In the box provided, type in as many words and phrases as you want to be notified of. You'll get one email for each post that mentions your phrase(s). For example, if Raven Ranson says, "Nicole Alderman is in Cascadia," I will get one email saying "Raven Ranson mentioned the phrases "Nicole Alderman", "Cascadia," and "Nicole" in a post" with a link to the post. I won't get three emails about those phrases, just one.

I like this one

It seems to be working great and is easy to add or subtract 'phrases'.

I would like to say "thanks" for adding this feature.  I love this PIE feature!

I added the word "texas" so now I am getting an email every time someone says "texas".  I am now reading subjects or threads that I would not normally pick.

I am now trying to think of phrases that I want to add.  It is hard to choose since there are so many topics that I love.

I'm bumping this in case others have not tried it yet...it is a very useful and fun function.

If someone is 'watching' their name we can get their attention in a thread now by just mentioning that name or if someone 'quotes you and your name is included you will get an email notice if your name is on your 'watch' list....I have my whole name and just judith listed separately.

I have it set for 'arkansas' and the 'ozarks' forums also...haven't thought of any clever phrases to watch for but that could be fun also.

Thanks for bumping this, Judith. I'm rather new to the Permies Forum and hadn't seen this. I am going to buy some pie and bookmark a few phrases I am interested in. One question....will it work for plurals of the word? For instance, if I bookmark "greenhouse", will it also alert me to "greenhosues" if someone uses the plural of the word in their post?

It's one of my favorite features. I can easily find out why my "ears are burning" .

Super Cool!

I am perusing the tinkering with this site forum and came across this.  I already tagged myself and I'm going to a few phrases too.
